My husband, Gene, and I met at a Shaver’s Creek picnic. Our story moved us many places before returning to State College in 2013. My career path was in biostatistics and teaching. Volunteer experiences at Shaver’s Creek and the Outdoor School resulted in lifelong friends and, importantly, showed me how volunteers and staff could create and accomplish much together while also genuinely caring for one another.
I also learned to look up (in the direction where others already saw the bird!). And down (scat? pellet?).
Now we share the wonders and interdependencies in our world with our grandchildren.
