Our Fall Open House is your chance to explore and learn about the natural world, embrace your curiosity, and just have fun! In addition to live music and access to our beautiful hiking trails, we’ll be offering a variety of scheduled and ongoing events and activities.
This event is free and designed for all ages. No registration required. Current Penn State students can sign up for free shuttle service to from University Park (limited seats available).
Ongoing Activities
- Scavenger hunts: Three different challenge levels based on your experience with nature identification. All come with a kit of materials to aid your search. How many levels can you complete?
- Guided meditation: Relax and refocus in the tranquil Aerie Reflection Garden. (starts every 20 minutes)
- Forest bathing: Surround yourself with the natural world and immerse your senses in what it has to offer. (starts every 30 minutes)
- Monarch migration station: Celebrate these beautiful butterflies and learn about their epic migration journey.
- Nature journaling: Use your senses to observe the forest around you through art and/or writing. No experience necessary!
- Plant printing: Create art from leaves! A good use for the leaves you may have gathered during the scavenger hunt.
- Bird identification: Learn from Shaver’s Creek team members how to attract birds in your backyard and use free apps to help identify them.
