Deutsch, Keely (Chameleon)

Living the dream! I felt so lucky to be outside learning about nature, animals, and all the stuff I love alongside fellow students and awesome leaders—and technically I was in class! So cool.

Right after Shaver’s Creek, I went to work and live at Hulbert Outdoor Center in Fairlee, Vermont (one of the places we visited on practicum). I was there for several seasons, then worked for Shelburne Farms several seasons before heading to a traveling graduate school for environmental sciences (camped and traveled all over for a year and a half). I then came back to Shelburne Farms to work full time and finish my grad school requirements. Eventually, looking for more work-life balance, I took a job managing at Lake Champlain Chocolates (yum!) and worked there for many years with a mini break to teach preschool. Then from the chocolate shop I moved to the company I currently work for (been here eight years) in human resources. Because I work remotely I still get to work outside (on nice days) or on a screened-in porch (on less than nice days). Last July, after 27 years in Vermont, due to life changes I moved back home to Pennsylvania. It is nice to be back close to Shaver’s Creek and all the awesome nature that set the tone for my love of outdoors at an early age.
