Years at Shaver’s Creek: 1984–1985

Positions Held: Graduate Assistant

Current Company/Organization: Retired

Shaver’s Creek influenced me as I continued my career as an interpretive naturalist for Fairfax County Parks in Virginia. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, I completed the Teacher Intern Program at Wilson College and added an elementary education teaching certificate to my environmental education certificate and B.S. and M.S. in environmental interpretation. For 26 years, I taught in grades 1–6 before retiring in 2013. My students were involved with maple sugaring, bluebird box monitoring, living history, and lots of other environmental education opportunities.

During this time I also created an herb garden and did related workshops in central Pennsylvania. Other presentations included Wildflowers, Native Americans, and Colonial History.

Gardening, wildflowers, birds, spinning yarn and living history continue to be my interests. I’ve participated in the Birding Cup since 2011 and am involved with the Coulter One-Room School Museum at the East Broad Top Railroad.
