I was greeted at Pittsburgh airport by a blizzard and an amazing group of interns. The Roost was such a special place. My love of education was fostered within Shaver’s Creek and guided by Doug and Rod.

When I returned to England, I commenced my career that culminated in becoming a principal of two 11–18 schools in the North of England. The confidence I developed whilst learning at Shaver’s Creek was key to my UK career flourishing. I was so proud last summer, all these years later, when my own daughter returned to Pennsylvania, not quite Shaver’s Creek, but her own adventure was inspired by her mum’s time in State College in 1994.
