Lewis, Riley (Yarrow)

Being an environmental education intern at Shaver’s Creek was a truly transformative experience as I got to see the seasons change and my skills as an educator and naturalist changed with it.

Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2025–2026

Positions Held: Intern

Current Company/Organization: Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center

I came into the internship with a shaky understanding of what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go but I knew I wanted to be an environmental educator. The dream was cemented after partaking in school programs and Outdoor School. Seeing how I could make an impact through teaching was both scary and enlightening. I do not know where I will end up after Shaver’s Creek, but what I do know is that I want to continue learning and sharing in what I learn. My path is less straightforward than younger me would have wanted, but current me is so incredibly excited to see new sights, meet new people, immerse myself in new places, and share the knowledge I gain whilst doing so.
