Pendorf, Alissa (Bluebird)

Shaver’s Creek was foundational for my career in environmental education. I fell in love with wildlife, teaching, and sharing the joy of nature with others.

Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2014–2015

Positions Held: Volunteer

Current Company/Organization: Discovery By Nature, LLC

It’s hard to believe that more than a decade has passed since I first volunteered with Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center, and I credit this experience to my success as a professional environmental educator. My first involvement with wildlife was through the SCEC Traveling Naturalist Programs, during which time I gained experience with animals like reptiles, amphibians, and birds of prey. Along the way, I built lasting relationships with other educators, earned my master’s degree in environmental education, and today offer independent nature programs to regional schools, churches, libraries, and other organizations. Over the years, I’ve also been excited to contribute to various Shaver’s Creek projects that promote conservation in central Pennsylvania. Remember—never stop discovering!
