Potter, Sarah (Firefly)

Here I found my people and then I found my person (Joshua Potter). Forever grateful that my path lead to Shaver’s Creek. My life is intertwined with beautiful threads that lead back to this place.

Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2000–2002

Positions Held: Outdoor School, SEED Semester, Volunteer

Current Company/Organization: Penn State

I keep the meander map of the Mississippi River on the wall in my office to remind me that all paths are worthwhile and often enriched by the unexpected twists and turns. Sometimes we have to wander. Sometimes we are made to change course. All the journeys I have had from museum educator, to high school science teacher, to guiding Montessori preschoolers to now working in climate change solutions at Penn State have been the right fit for the right time. My time at Shaver’s Creek prepared me with the importance of 1) knowing and interpreting a place, 2) relying on a community and your connections, 3) remembering your strengths and how they fit particular circumstances, 4) being open to silliness and play, and 5) finding peace in the natural world.
