I have had a wonderful career in conservation education for over 20 years after leaving Shaver’s Creek. My experience with Block/Seed semester helped determine my graduate school path. Finally experiencing burnout in education, I transitioned to field biology for 5 years. Today, I find myself behind a desk in regulation at Pennsylvania DEP.
Shaver’s Creek gave me an organic, messy, and down-to-earth head start. Perhaps today I have traded that for a “walk-on part in the war,” or perhaps “squandered my resistance”? I don’t yet know the answer to that (well, you know what Rilke says…) but touching base at The Creek still allows me time to contemplate.
