Welshimer, Amy (Forest)

Several seasons of Outdoor School and SEED Semester of 2023 remain the fondest memories I have of learning, connecting, and immersing in nature.

Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2022–2024

Positions Held: Outdoor School, Block/SEED Semester

Current Company/Organization: Cap’N Fish’s Cruises

After graduating, I spent several seasons in Maine as a naturalist for the National Audubon Society and the marine wildlife cruise company Cap’N Fish’s Cruises. I am now thrilled to continue with Cap’N Fish’s Cruises year-round as a naturalist & education coordinator. Not only will I be a naturalist on board seabird and cetacean wildlife cruises, but I will also promote and support new community outreach endeavors for the organization in my new role. I am thrilled to be living and working in my dream state of Maine, and I will forever owe it to the Shaver’s Creek community I encountered during my years at Penn State. Many of these people I am still in contact with today, and Shaver’s Creek has persisted in my life as a warm and welcoming place. Every day, my spirits are buoyed in reminiscence of my Shaver’s Creek experiences and connections. I am often reminded of my deep gratitude for my time spent in those Petersburg forests and what I’ve learned from teachers, mentors, and classmates. Much of this learning is automatic when you are surrounded by such passionate souls. Thank you forever, Shaver’s Creek!
