My time as an intern at Shaver’s Creek was my first real experience with environmental education. It provided me the foundation of what would become a career with PA State Parks.
Years at Shaver’s Creek: 1996–1998
Positions Held: Intern, Volunteer
Current Company/Organization: PA DCNR – Bureau of State Parks, Jacobsburg EE Center
Today, I’m the manager of Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center, one of the few officially designated centers in the PA State Park system. As a biology major in college, Shaver’s Creek provided me with the foundational experience in environmental education that I carried with me through my undergraduate degree, graduate degree, and many other seasonal/intern positions. Beyond that, Shaver’s Creek created a community and connections to staff that I hold dear today. The staff of an organization are what really make it special, and Shaver’s Creek has been particularly blessed with their staff through the years.
