The Shaver’s Creek community was unlike anything I had experienced before, and it ultimately brought me back to Pennsylvania after years away.
Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2018–2019
Positions Held: Intern
Current Company/Organization: Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League
After finishing my intern year at Shaver’s Creek, I moved to Colorado to work as a backcountry guide. Years of exploring the mountains, swimming in alpine lakes, and learning how to ski left me missing the charm of Pennsylvania, and so I decided to move back in 2021.
These days, I work for the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, where I help grow the sport of mountain biking here in Pennsylvania. I’ve worn many hats over the years of outdoor education work, but my favorite is the one that allows me to build relationships with people around a shared interest. Above all, the Shaver’s Creek community taught me the importance of joy in everything you do. I’ve found that the best way to connect with others is by keeping that joy alive. My year as an intern, the people I met, and the experiences I had there hold some of the most special places in my heart.
