Shaver’s Creek has shaped who I am today—as a naturalist, as a friend, and as a person.
Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2021–2026
Positions Held: Outdoor School, Block/SEED Semester, Summer Camp, Volunteer
Current Company/Organization: BiodiversityWorks
As a Penn State student, I was searching for community during a post-pandemic isolated world. Once I found Shaver’s Creek, everything changed. Spending multiple seasons immersing myself in all things SCEC, I found everything I was looking for: community, friendship, and mentorship all rooted in the natural world. From Outdoor School downpours to SEED semester snowstorms, from brisk Maple Harvest Festival mornings to hot Summer Camp days, I have learned to appreciate and love all that each season has to offer, thanks to Shaver’s Creek.
Since graduating in 2024 with a degree in Wildlife & Fisheries Science, I have been working as a traveling seasonal wildlife technician/environmental educator. I’m now working as a seasonal bird monitoring technician on Martha’s Vineyard. I am eternally grateful for Shaver’s Creek and all that it has provided me over the years—may the next 50 years inspire even more curious naturalists!
