I’m currently retired from teaching some 30+ years; most recently having spent 25 years in the Penns Valley School District as a reading specialist. My experience at Shaver’s Creek as an intern and later leading school groups in outdoor studies prepared me for creating an outdoor studies program at Chautauqua Institution as part of the children’s camp programming in the 90s. The experiences at Shaver’s Creek also came through in some Earth Day activities I organized for students at the school where I taught. I have returned to Shaver’s Creek throughout my time living nearby for outdoor hikes, kayaking, ice skating, x-country skiing, Nature Journaling, and volunteering for the Maple Harvest Fest. The summer internship remains a highlight of my memories and has inspired me at different times and places in my life.
