One of the best experiences of my life—Shaver’s Creek not only inspired me, but also pushed me to grow, built my confidence, and reminded me why I chose this path.
Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2024–2025
Positions Held: Volunteer
Current Company/Organization: Student
I am currently advancing my education through a master’s program at Virginia Tech after graduating with a bachelor’s from Penn State with hope to pursue a Ph.D. in the near future. Since “graduating” from Shaver’s Creek, I have landed jobs/internships from the Maryland Scales and Tales Program, National Deer Association, and Centre Wildlife Care and was selected for international wildlife research through the JSPS program in Japan. I have also engaged in wildlife epidemiology research studies with current papers in the works. Shaver’s Creek has give me hands-on experience with environmental education, wildlife handling, public outreach, and scientific communication with diverse audiences. Shaver’s Creek has challenged me to step into leadership roles, trust my own knowledge, and to take ownership of my role in conservation.
