Shaver’s Creek sparked my passion to become a lifelong learner.
Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2008–2009
Positions Held: Intern, Volunteer
Current Company/Organization: Fairfax County Park Authority
I started as an Environmental Education Intern in the fall of 2008. I continued through the spring of 2009 and eventually volunteered at every farm show exhibit until 2017. My experience at Shaver’s Creek helped me develop into a more knowledgeable naturalist and interpreter. I learned so much about local Pennsylvania ecology and the importance of native plants and wildlife. I also learned many new techniques to interpret those resources to various audiences. My current position is Natural Resource Manager with the Fairfax County Park Authority at Riverbend Park and Scott’s Run Nature Preserve in Great Falls, Virginia. My position is focused on meadow and woodland restoration efforts, invasive species management, rare plant community documentation and protection, and natural resource inventory management.
I met the love of my life, Elise Hagenberger (Tussey) at the Pennsylvania Farm Show while volunteering at the Shaver’s Creek exhibit.
