Join Shaver’s Creek staff Alexa Sarussi for a free, in-person morning of nature journaling.

We will meet at the Penn State Center for Virtual/Material Studies (CVMS) for February’s Community Nature Journaling session. Sarah K. Rich, art history professor and CVMS director, will share her work with us as we explore the connections between insects and natural inks and dyes. We’ll be journaling galls, the insects that create them, and insects that are used for other dyes. You’ll even have the option to use real oak gall ink as a medium for your writing and drawing!

This session will introduce participants to diverse nature journaling techniques. It will culminate with sharing our learnings and reflecting together. All ages, families, and individuals are welcome. We encourage parents to bring children who express genuine interest in nature drawing and to monitor their behavior. Youth participants must be accompanied by an adult participant.
