Join Shaver’s Creek staff Alexa Sarussi for a free, in-person morning of nature journaling!
Join us in February as we head to the Frost Entomological Museum, which houses Penn State’s extensive and diverse collection of preserved insects. Museum curator, Laura Porturas, will give us a tour of the museum’s exhibits and behind-the-scenes collection space, before we take a closer look at specimens of insects that use mimicry and camouflage.
No prior knowledge or experience with insects or drawing is required, but John Muir Laws has many excellent free recorded workshops about how to draw insects on his website if you’re excited to practice!

- A list of 20+ amazing video workshops about drawing insect legs, iridescence, bees, and more! (scroll down to “How to Draw Insects”)
All ages, families, and individuals are welcome. We encourage parents to bring children who express genuine interest in nature drawing, but ask that they monitor their behavior. Youth participants must be accompanied by an adult participant.
