Migration Mornings are back for the Fall!

As the days grow shorter, many birds are taking the cue to leave their breeding grounds and make the harrowing journey south to the promise of winter food in warmer climes. Shaver’s Creek teams up with Wiscoy Pet Food Co.every Spring and Fall to get folks up early and outside to witness this seasonal stream of wings through our central Pennsylvania forests.

Please join us for this Fall’s Migration Morning Bird Walks, which start this Wednesday, September 1st, and continue every Wednesday in September. Shaver’s Creek naturalists Doug Wentzel and Joshua Potter will lead this search for birds on the move, and will assist you in honing your own birding skills.

This Fall we will also be experimenting with our new digital audio recording equipment that we procured through the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Come hear what Lang Elliott hears when he’s recording a sparrow or chickadee from afar. Binoculars and guidebooks will be available for all participants to borrow.

These walks are FREE thanks to the support of Wiscoy Pet Food Co., and meet at Shaver’s Creek at 7:30AM on September 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. We hope to see you out!
