I am an educator at the National Children’s Museum in Washington, D.C. I get to teach kids in an informal setting with hands-on and inquiry-based approaches, similar to the experiential education approach I practiced through programs at Shaver’s Creek.
Shavers Creek taught me invaluable skills such as adapting educational approaches for various audiences, getting people engaged and actively involved in their own learning, and the importance of community. I am able to lead and educate with confidence after learning skills from some of the most passionate individuals in environmental education.
Shavers Creek showed me how important community and creativity are in the education field and changed my outlook on my own learning. I am more open minded and a lifelong learner after taking classes, interning, and working on staff at Shaver’s Creek. These are experiences that I will cherish forever.
