We shoveled the ice to skate, stayed up to go herping, studied birds for the cup, and built a deep bond with one another and the beauty and wonder of central PA; the American Binterns 4-ever!
Years at Shaver’s Creek: 2009
Positions Held: Intern
Current Company/Organization: Dodge Nature Center & Preschool
I am the preschool director at Dodge Nature Center & Preschool in Minnesota. Shaver’s Creek introduced me to birds and birding, taught me about experiential education, and let me get a bat detector and lead a program in bat conservation. Growing up a city kid, living and working at Shaver’s Creek allowed me to build phenological awareness and find awe in all winter and spring brought. My favorite memories are leading a mammal-themed Kids Corner where we became bobcats, studying with Blake and Casey to learn all the birds and be ready for the Cup, feeding the ambassador animals (especially the screech owls), and all the discovery alongside colleagues, students, and visitors. In my work today, I still use tools I learned in the CIG class and the trail maintenance I learned from Brian. Will always treasure the memories and friendships made during my time at Shaver’s Creek.
