Community Nature Journaling

Join Shaver’s Creek staff Alexa Sarussi for a free, in-person, and socially distanced morning of nature journaling. This month’s Community Nature Journaling focus will be… a visit to the PSU Bird Specimen Collection!

Preserved specimens provide us with a unique opportunity to see and learn about species that may or may not still be with us. Join us for a special visit to Penn State Ecosystem Science and Management’s Bird Collection to draw, write and learn from preserved specimens. There will additionally be an optional short walk across the street to the Arboretum to view the Carolina Parakeet sculpture, part of the Lost Bird Project installation.

This session will introduce participants to diverse nature journaling techniques. It will culminate with sharing our learnings and reflecting together. All ages, families, and individuals are welcome. We encourage parents to bring children who express genuine interest in nature drawing and to monitor their behavior. Youth participants must be accompanied by an adult participant.

Participants will meet on PSU University Park campus and are responsible for their own transportation; exact meeting location and parking information will be shared via email after registration.

Learn more and register at: shaverscreek.org/journal
Registration is capped at 20 participants.

This event is free and open to the public thanks to the generous support of Shaver’s Creek members.
