Join Shaver’s Creek’s Nature Journal Club for an interactive and virtual evening of nature sketching with local artist and instructor Ann Taylor-Schmidt. Ann has been teaching art for 40+ years independently, at Shaver’s Creek, and through the Art Alliance in Lemont. In this virtual session, Ann will guide participants through three foundational nature sketching techniques — gesture, geometric, and contour. Participants of all ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to join to learn how a few simple skills can support deeper observation and more accurate documentation of the world around us. Registration is required.

This program is offered by Shaver’s Creek’s Nature Journal Club. Shaver’s Creek’s Nature Journal Club provides open meetings and workshops for people of all ages and artistic abilities, with shared goals of observing, documenting and learning more about the natural world while building community.

Ann Taylor-Schmidt has taught workshops since earning her BS in Art Education in 1976. Now retired, her career spanned 40+ years in the printing industry and in visual communications for Penn State. She is passionate about youth mentoring, nature, drawing, bonsai, photography and polymer clay jewelry making. Ann occasionally teaches at the Art Alliance in Lemont, PA. Each spring, she teaches a nature journaling workshop for college students at Shaver’s Creek. To relax, she walks out her back door with a sketch pad and pencil to observe and immerse herself in nature.

This event is free and open to the public thanks to the generous support of Shaver’s Creek members.

Registration is required. Registrants will receive a general confirmation email upon registration. Closer to the event, a follow-up email will be sent containing a link to the event’s virtual meeting room as well as instructions.
