Did you know Wood Turtles will stomp on the ground to encourage worms to move to the surface and then eat them? Known for the distinct patterns on their shell, Wood Turtles are considered a species of concern in Pennsylvania. Learn more about this turtle and the current research being done at Penn State that monitors their population here at Shaver’s Creek.

This Science Saturday program will consist of an informational presentation, an animal meet-and-greet with the Wood Turtle at the Litzinger Herpetarium, and a nature walk to Wood Turtle habitat around Shaver’s Creek.

We will meet in the Weidemann Bookstore and Gift Shop in our visitor center at the start of the program. All ages, families, and individuals are welcome. Youth participants must be accompanied by an adult participant. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Please be aware that masking is required during the indoor portion of this event.
